I really did not want to have to name the breed because of the stigma around them but, he is a rottweiler.
He is very play-full with my kids and my female red healer. He has been fixed so no help there. It may be prey or play but no one around here 9where I live) has been any help.
Thanks to all who answer.

My very calm mellow Dalmatian freaks out when cats appear (which is all the time in my cat-filled neighborhood).
If You Keep Them In A Same Room (Not A Small One, Livingroom Perhaps), Slowly Let Them Be AloneAnd See What Happends. **BUT** If They Try To Fight....You Get In There Like A Reff And Try Again Till They Calm Down Around Eachother.
They'll Most Likey Be Best Of Friends By Xmas Time :)
Good Luck To You!
number two, because he was probably not exposed to cats too often, and he feels it is a threat.
number three its because he probably needs to get more exercise as well
number four, he may have napoleon syndrome, even though he is a big dog, a lot of little dogs get that are mostly indoor dogs...they are timid when unwelcome guests are around and use their fear in an aggressive way. by barking, biting and chasing.
and number five which i think is a part of it reguardless, is that he is fixated on it because u allow him to be even though u do take measures to halt him after he gets riled up...when u allow the dog to get excited about it to where he actually wants to chase it, ur not the dominant one...u have to stop his excitement before it hits that point.
here is a tip, get in front of ur dog and firmly tell him or show him that u are the boss that that u are not letting him pass...if he dodges his head back and fourth to see the cat, u are not doing it effectively and u are not establishing dominance...if that isnt enough for u, show him that the cat is ok by u by physically going up to the cat and petting it and really giving a "ur a nice kitty" vibe out...do not touch ur dogs bum and far back area as that is a motivation technique...but mostly i think it is becaue u allow him to be the leader when he is seeing those cats and is chasing them...so firmly grab him with his leash, while u are in front of him while u are parallel and get physically infront of him and give that presence of ur the boss and u mean business...if ur half as*ing it they will sense it...find ur local dog trainer, ask around to all the pet owners u know and eventually u will find one that is able to work with him effectively...instead of spending money that wasnt worth it, its good to ask around and look up reviews.
