APIPA programming under Windows XP

  • How do I manually set the address range PROGRAMMATICALLY in the APIPA functionality under Windows XP, rather than allow it to automatically default to its 169.x.x.x

  • I don't believe it is possible to set this range with any reasonable amount of effort. The reason is that the 169.x.x.x range is specifically set up for APIPA use, and by definition, an APIPA address is in that range. You might be able to accomplish the same thing with a customized DHCP server on each computer. If you are interested in that, I'm sure I could find more information.

  • Sorry, I meant the alternative configuration!
