Someone claimed that the Republican party has 'plenty of programs for minorities to take advantage of', yet McCain never mentions them, I never see them in the Republican web site, and most Republicans here think discrimination against blacks no longer exists, so such programs are irrelevent. Do such programs exist that would make a significant difference in the lives of the 40 million blacks in this country, or are they just a small number of programs effects a few thousands? Black unemployment is much higher than white unemployment. So there must not be plenty of programs, or at least not enough. Also, look at the Republican Party and see how many black people it attracts.
One responder really hit the nail on the head by distinguishing between black and "regular" folks! We really don't have a program to end that kind of discrimination! most everything now is for minoritiesThere are to many, we need to abolish all "race based" programs and force people to get off their butts and take responsibility for their own lives.

Race based programs are racist. There are plenty of white people who are trapped in the cycle of poverty. You don't have to be a minority to be poor.
There are plenty of black people who are successful on their own initiative.
Bottom line is, with the exception of the children, we can not help anyone who is not willing to take the responsibility of helping himself. White or black or purple."Programs" are but one small step, in a much larger picture, and if you do not know this already then there is very little hope for you.The program for all is to know the history, find out why ALL RACES, looks down on the BLACK RACE IN AMERICA. Don't try to impress us by adding all the radicals from Kenya and Zimbabwe to your numbers of deprived minorities. The ambitious minority people know how to get their education . There are more programs for "minorities" to take advantage of then there are for regular folks to use. Governments are forced to use a certain number of minority contractors before moving on to white contractors. Does not matter if the contractor is good, they just have to be a minority.The number of programs in this country that are available to minorities is staggering. They are called Jobs, they can be found at most companies. Many of them provide a very nice living.You obviously have never worked or talked to anyone in the social service field..and obviously know nothing about grants..there are more opportunities for minorities than anyone else..this stretches from college scholarships specifically for african americans, african american woman and various grants specifically for minorities. As well..check out the cdc website..what special programs are most funded? those which reach the minority community..an example would be AIDS funding that is specifically set out for the Black community.Numerous programs within the public aid system are set out specifically for minorities..job training and job placement.Have you also forgotten about affirmative action? You continue to want to blame white republicans for all the problems blacks have.Initiative( rather a LACK OF initiative) is not the problem of the government..you sound like someone who just wants the government to hand out freebies because a person is black.If this election process has not proven that a "person of color" (good enough for you liberal loons?) has EVERY oppertunity to excell and achieve anything they desire..then you are simply blind to the truth.Who cares? There shouldn't be ANY programs for minorities...Its high time minorities are held to the same standard as whites are. Nobody's suffering from racism. A comment here and there doesn;t constitute a race problem..When you start getting tarred and feathered just for being black, then you have something to whine about. Give me a break. In other words, start acting like an American, not an African American or Asian American, etc. It's called unity. A black man is running for president, isn't he? Blacks are NOT the only minority in this country.
The Chinese were discriminated againstt horribly but they don't need a dumbing down of academic standards to get scholarships or college acceptance.
The Jews suffered discrimination and a horrible genocide. Are they crying in their crack? The Jews are at the top of the scientific community (Einstein developed his theory in Nazi Germany before fleeing).
The French Canadians were horribly discriminated against by the English Canadians. They turned it around and now everyone in Canada proudly calls themselves a Canuck.
As for programs to help minorities... how abot National Achievement to provide scholarships to people who couldn't score high enough on National Merit? How about affirmative action? I used to believe in it until I saw first hand how it is implemented. Every negative stereotype you've ever heard of about filling quotas is TRUE. Forget about hiring a "less qualified" minority, I'm talking about hiring completely unqualified, incompetent morons.
Racism and discrimination exist but it's not against blacks.More than enough.
First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.
Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the '60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.
Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks -- with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas -- to advance black applicants over white applicants.
Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.

Let him go to Altoona?and Johnstown, and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for 'deserving' white kids.?
Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America ? Is it really white America 's fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?
Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself?
As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence. Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time?
We have all heard ad nauseam from the Rev. Al about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena . And all turned out to be hoaxes. But about the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing.If you are talking about programs to advance, then I would say that they are very limited. There is a program out there that supports women(black and white) in their attempts to create businesses, and basically that is the only minority program I know of. All other programs aimed at supporting business or education are not catering to one racial group but have specific guidelines for who qualifies for those programs(i.e. pell grant). If you mean the medicaid and foodstamp programs, then again, income qualifications are the main determinant for qualification, not race. The same with public housing assistance. Most social programs are not established to help one particular racial/ethnic group, they are established to help the poor. Guidelines are pretty low to qualify, I really do not think that anyone would voluntarily want to live in the poverty level, because to qualify for most programs one has to be at or below the poverty level of 135 percent, which means that even if you are poor you often don't qualify for any of those programs since your income is above the guidelines....I prefer the "get a damn job and fend for yourself and stop waiting around for a handout" program... that's really the only one we need... and it should apply to all races. A whole lot more than there needs to be,a hand up not a hand out is how it should be,And was supposed to be way back when.
